Question: What are the Vedas?
Answer: The Vedas are Hinduism’s most ancient and central scriptures. They are of divine origin, being revealed to man directly by God. The Vedas are written in the Sanskrit language and are the worlds oldest Scripture, written over 4,000 years ago. The Vedas comprise of four books: The Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda.
Question: What do the Vedas contain?
Answer: Each Veda has four sections. The Samhitas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads. The first three sections contains devotional hymns to the many forms of God within Hinduism. Included in these sections are the rules of chanting the hymns, description of the different ceremonies and mystical significance of the ceremonies. Since the Vedas include all the forms of God, they are equally revered by all the sects of Hinduism and considered central Scriptures of Hinduism. The fourth section of the Vedas, the Upanishads, is the philosophical section. This section contains expostions of the truths of life by gurus as they answer the questions of their disciples. These gurus spoke out their profound divine experiences and inner realizations as revealed to them by God.

Answer: Each Veda comprises of many volumes of books. These books are available in print in the Sanskrit language with translations in English and other languages, published by the larger publishers in India, such as Motilal Banarsidas.
